On Thursday, Indian team captain Virat Kohli announced that he would quit the captaincy of the T20 team. Moreover, he wrote a post on social media informing about this.
In the post, he said that he will vacate the post of captaincy, but only after the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli’s record in T20 International cricket as captain
Virat Kohli has represented India in 90 T20 Internationals. Out of which, he has captained in 45 matches. As a captain, he has led Team India to win 27 matches. However, India has also lost 14 matches. His win percentage as captain has been 65.11.
Also, as a captain, Virat Kohli has never lost a T20 series (at least three matches) on home soil. Now that the people know of Virat Kohli’s resignation, Rohit Sharma will take the lead of the T20 team.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has proved his capabilities as a captain on many occasions. He has led Team India in 19 T20 Internationals. Further, under his captaincy, India has won 15 matches and lost four.
Team India Never Won any ICC trophy under Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli couldn’t manage to win any ICC trophy as a captain. However, he has won the T20 series in South Africa, New Zealand, England, and Australia as well as West Indies. Virat Kohli took charge of the Indian team in the T20 format in 2017. He had won his first bilateral T20 series in the same year. That year, it was the only match against Sri Lanka.
India won the first series in South Africa 2-1 in 2018. During the same time, India also won against England 2-1. India registered its biggest win overseas in 2019-20. Further, Team India defeated New Zealand 5-0 in the five-match T20 series.
