Twitter is testing new settings that would enable users to monitor who are able to respond to their posts on the social media site, a possible big shift. Until now, any user may react to any public post on Twitter. The replies would be visible below the original message. In some situations, this permitted open discussion and was seen as a virtue.
For certain situations, the replies transform into nonsense or threats. Violence on Twitter has become a trend of recurrent complaints against the service. “Reply Guys” has become a term for users who incessantly react to other people’s tweets in a bothersome or repetitive manner. Twitter has recently begun to carry out a feature that allows users to mask those responses.
The new setting, which is not yet universal, allows users to select whether to accept answers from anyone, only people they follow or certain other users. The function was officially recognised by Twitter in a post that immediately received thousands of responses, including users requesting more changes.
