Twitter Suspends Kangana’s Account Permanently After Another Hateful Tweet

Twitter has finally suspended the account of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Kangana has been a ferocious defender of Modi Government on Twitter. She was also in news for making derogatory remarks against the farmers protesting against the agriculture laws. She has been tweeting in support of Hindutva, and has often made problematic remarks.

On Tuesday, Kangana did a series of Tweets on Post Poll Violence in Bengal. Kangana wrote that to tame Mamata Modi must get in to his “Viraat Roop” of early 2000s. Users interpreted her tweet as a reference to 2002 riots of Gujarat when Modi was the Chief Minister.

On the issue, a Twitter spokesperson said, “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on our service”.

Earlier Twitter took action against her when she tweeted agisnt Amazon Prime Video series Tandav. At that time, she said it was ‘time to take (the makers’) heads off’ for hurting religious sentiments. However, the actress moved to other Social Media websites to write against Twitter.

In a statement, Kangana said, “Twitter has only proved my point they are Americans and by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person, they want to tell you what to think, speak or do”. Ealier, Kangana also had tagged Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. She wrote in a tweet, “My account and my virtual identity might get martyred for the country anytime”.

After that, reactions from celebrities started pouring in. Youtuber Dhruv Rathee supported Twitter’s decision. While many Twitter Celebrities and users began sharing memes and jokes about Kangana. #KanganaRanaut was trending on Twitter all day.
