After Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams, another Indian-origin woman will be going to space. Her name is Sirisha Bandla. She will go on a space walk on July 11 in Virgin Orbit. It is the spacecraft of Richard Branson’s space company Virgin Galactic. Richard Branson announced the space journey of six people including Sirisha.
Branson’s space travel team includes two women. The other woman’s name is Besh Moses. Sirisha is also the Vice President of Government Affairs and Research Operations for Virgin Galactic Company. She has achieved this position with her hard work in just six years. As soon as the news of her going to space arrived, people around the world are congratulating heron social media.
Sirisha hails from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. She graduated in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University followed by an MBA from Georgetown University. She is also currently handling Virgin Orbit’s Washington operations. During her spaceflight, Sirisha Bandla will be a part of the Winged Rocket Ship flight from Mexico. At this time she will also be in charge of Human Tended Research Experience.
Wanted to be an astronaut since childhood
Sirisha Bandla will also study the impact on astronauts during their space travel. Since she grew up in Houston, Texas, she has seen rockets and spacecraft come and go. The effect of this was that since then she had been keeping the dream of space travel in her mind. However, due to poor eyesight, she could not become a pilot in the Air Force.

After Kalpana Chawla, 34-year-old Sirisha will be the second Indian-born woman to travel to space. She will be the fourth Indian to travel to space in the world. “I am honored to be part of the Unity-22 crew and a company whose mission is to make space accessible to all,” she tweeted with a video.

Sirisha Bandla was born in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, India. Her grandfather Bandla Raghiya is an agronomist.
