The second wave of the COVID-19 crisis is wreaking havoc in India. The Center is unable to control the current COVID crisis in the country. Moreover, there have been reports of more than four million new patients in the last 24 hours. In the past 10 days, the number of infected people has crossed four lakhs. One can guess from these figures how fast and deadly the second wave of the COVID crisis is.
Earlier, scientists had warned the Indian government about the spread of the second wave of the COVID-19 virus. However, the Indian government had ignored their warning. A forum of scientific advisors set up by the government warned Indian officials in March itself. During that time, India witnessed a new COVID-19 variant.
Despite the scientist’s warning, the central government didn’t take any measures. The scientists had requested to impose restrictions to stop the spread of the virus. Instead, PM Narendra Modi did many political rallies along with other BJP leaders. Even, leaders from opposition parties did many rallies. Further, there were lakhs of people who also attended religious ceremonies.
During this time, thousands of farmers were also protesting against the agricultural laws on the borders of Delhi. As a result, India is now facing the most severe COVID-19 crisis. There are more COVID-related deaths and cases prevalent this year than last year.
This is the biggest COVID-19 crisis in India under PM Modi. The public hasn’t seen any concrete measures from the current government. We still don’t know the mishandling of the second wave COVID-19 crisis on the PM and his party politically. The next general election is due in 2024. Before this, five states will announce their electoral results. Though, in 2022, the term of a few states will expire.
