The farmers protest against agricultural bills continues in Punjab. Meanwhile, an 80-year-old woman died on Friday while protesting against the farm bills. She was the mother of farmer Union leaders Babu Singh and Mittu Singh. The woman was sitting on the railway track in Budhlada Mansa daily since October 2. Along with her, Meghraj Singh, a farmer who was staging a protest in front of a petrol pump in Sangrur also died of a heart attack.
On Friday, members of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti closed the toll plaza of village Nijjer pura on the Amritsar Delhi National Highway. At the same time, on Amritsar Delhi, railway track farmer strike in village Devidaspur continues for the 16th consecutive day. Farmers blocked the Bathinda Mansa National Highway for two hours in Bathinda.
Farmers staged a sit-in on Gurdaspur Muktsar Highway and Chandigarh Ropar main road in Nawanshahr. In Patiala, near the village Dhareri jattan, nine places including the Patiala Rajpura National Highway were blocked. Also, in Abohar farmer leaders staged a sit-in outside the petrol pump near Alamgarh and expressed anger and blocked the national highway. In Ropar, seven farmer groups held a demonstration for 2 hours at the Solakhiyan toll plaza on a national highway.
Earlier as well farmers lost their lives in these protests. Pritam Singh of Akkanwali who was on a sit-in outside the residence of former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal died in protest against the farm bills by consuming poison. A farmer in Barnala died while giving a speech at the toll plaza. Apart from this, around 12 farmers got injured in the bus accident while returning from Badal village. Out of these Mukhtiar Singh and Wazir Singh died a few days later.
The farmers also condemned the Lathi charge on the farmers in Haryana and the Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh. The leaders warned the central government that if the government does not withdraw these anti farmers black laws, the struggle will intensify. Farmer leaders Avtar Singh Kaurjeewala, Satnam Singh Bahiru, Manjeet Singh Nehal, called Harsimrat Kaur Badal resignation as Union Minister “Kori dramebazi”.
The farmers also warned that if the Punjab government does not cancel these farming laws by calling the special assembly session soon, then Congress ministers will also be gheraoed.
