India and US to have important meeting before the two plus two talks

India and the US want to enhance cooperation with like-minded partners. Moreover, both nations want a stronger defense partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific. The Pentagon had issued a statement regarding the matter. Further, the U.S defense Ministry also said that said officials from the two countries held a meeting. Actually, both nations are gearing up for the two-plus-two talks. The talks will take place later this year. On Friday, the Indian Defense Secretary, Ajay Kumar, and US Under Secretary of Defense (Policy) Colin Kahl attended the meeting.

India and US ready for two plus two talks

The Pentagon also briefed the media about the developments. The Pentagon informed that the US-India Defense Policy Group made possible the two-plus-two ministerial dialogue. Further, the Pentagon also said that the 16th meeting laid the groundwork for the talks. Defense Ministry spokesman, Lt Col Anton T Semalrath said the talks carried forward an ambitious set of bilateral priorities. This also included information sharing, maritime cooperation, logistics, and defense trade.

He said US and Indian officials discussed regional issues of common interest. Moreover, South Asia and the Indian Ocean region. The meeting also committed to built strong cooperation in new defense areas such as space and cyber.

On this occasion, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla also briefed the Indian media. He said last month that the two plus two talks will take place in the US in November this year. This all happened after a fortnight after the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden.  Moreover, the White House now wants the bilateral relations between India and America to be progressing on many issues.

Further, Jen Psaki, the U.S Press Secretary also informed the media that both nations want to focus on economic trade, national security, and tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. There is also the news report of CDS General Bipin Rawat visiting the U.S in the near future. The US Chief of Naval Staff will visit India next week.
