Considering increasing global pressure on dwindling water resources, India has emphasized the need to create flexible systems that provide long-term solutions for sustainable use of water.
Water is important
UN General Assembly President Volkan Bojir convened a high-level meeting. In the meeting, Water Power Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that there is no doubt that water supply and sanitation must accompany the global efforts to achieve the 2030 agenda.
The theme of this meeting was the implementation of the water related goals and objectives of the 2030 Agenda. Shekhawat said, Water is important for life on earth. Nearly one billion population has no water and 2.7 billion people face water scarcity at least one month every year.
He said, 17.7 percent of the world’s population lives in India. And the demand for water will increase twice as much as its availability by 2030. Therefore, we need to provide water to the most vulnerable sections.
