Civil Hospital Ludhiana has started the first Breast Milk Pump Bank. This bank will provide breast milk to newly born babies in the first hour of birth. So that babies can get nutrients and antibodies from breast milk, which are most important for their development. ADC Vikas Amit Kumar and Councilor Mamta Ashu launched the bank on Friday.
Dr Harjinder Bedi told that this is the first bank in Punjab, where health workers will be able to get mother’s milk through a pump. Most mothers have difficulty in feeding due to swelling. For this reason, the baby is not able to get breast milk within the first hour. The bank installed a container has been installed to keep mother’s milk safe.
Two electrical pumps, 10 manual pumps, 16 containers and a sterilizer are available in the bank from the administration side. He said that breast-feeding babies within the first hour and up to six months is best for their development. This milk protects children from many diseases. Meanwhile, according to WHO, babies who drink breast milk are healthier and are less likely to get sick as they grow up.
