Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday praised the Indian team for the “courage, perseverance and skill shown during the historic win in the Test series over the host team. CA also thanked the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) for ensuring smooth conduct of the match.
The team led by Ajinkya Rahane was comparatively weaker thanthe host. However, they beat Australia’s strong side by three wickets in Gabba to win the four-match series 2–1. Team India also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy despite all the odds.
In an open letter CA wrote, ‘On behalf of everyone in Cricket Australia, we congratulate the Indian team for the courage, perseverance and skill shown in this series to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This series will continue to be discussed in future generations as well.
The letter begins with CA’s interim CEO Nick Hockley and Chairman Earl Iddings address. They write to the ‘Friends of Indian cricket’ and thank the Saurav Ganguly-led board for successfully visiting amidst COVID-19 pandemic.
“Australian cricket will always be grateful to the BCCI for their friendship, trust and commitment, which helped millions of people of the world rejoice in difficult times by helping to organize a series,” the letter said.
Both the teams kept their focus on cricket despite the racist comments on Mohammad Siraj and Jaspreet Bumrah in the Sydney Test. CA wrote, ‘There are many challenges related to international touring during the global pandemic. We thank the Indian players, coaches and support staff.
The Australian Board said, “Despite the challenges related to public health and logistical, the BCCI maintained a spirit of cooperation. It was in line with its reputation as the greatest ambassador of international sports. We will never forget the sacrifice of our friends in BCCI to make this possible”.
