The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center received a total of Rs 785 crore as donation. This amount is from individual donations, election trusts and industry groups during the financial year 2019-20. This is almost five times the donations that the country’s main opposition Congress received in the same period. According to reports, the largest contribution to the BJP’s donations has been given by the electoral trust, industries and the party’s own leaders.
Piyush Goyal, Pema Khandu, Kirron Kher and Raman Singh were among the top donors for the BJP. Major industry groups like ITC, Kalyan Jewelers, Rare Enterprises, Ambuja Cement, Lodha Developers and Motilal Oswal also donated to the BJP. New Democratic Electoral Trust, Prudent Electoral Trust, Jalkalyan Electoral Trust, Triumph Electoral also donated to BJP.
Meanwhile, according to the information provided by the Congress party, it received a total donation of Rs 139 crore. Apart from this, the ruling party in West Bengal Trinamool Congress (TMC) has received donations of eight crore rupees. CPI (Communist Party of India) has received Rs 1.3 crore and CPI(M) has received Rs 19.7 crore.
