Social activist Anna Hazare will join the ongoing movement against agricultural laws. He has given an ultimatum to the Central Government regarding the agricultural laws. He said that if the government takes no concrete decision on the issue of farmers, then from January 30, he will undertake the last hunger strike of his life on the issue of farmers.
Anna said that he has demanded permission to go on fast unto death at Ramlila Maidan. If the fast is not allowed in Ramlila Maidan, then I will start my fast where the venue is available.
Anna also said that he has written a letter to the Prime Minister. However, he has not received any reply. The government has only been giving assurances on the issue of farmers for the last three years. But farmers no longer trust them. He says that the new agricultural laws are not in line with ‘democratic values’. He also said that public participation is essential in drafting of the bills.
Anna said that on 14 December, he had written a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Nerendra Singh Tomar on the ongoing agitation of various farmers’ organizations on Delhi’s borders against the three new agricultural laws of the Center. He reiterated the demands of the farmers, including the implementation of recommendations of MS Swaminathan Committee on Agriculture. If the government does not accepted, he will go on hunger strike. He has also sought to provide autonomy to the Commission for agricultural costs and prices.
