After months of protests, the tag of ‘Adani Airport’ has finally been removed from the Mangalore International Airport. Now AAI has taken down the name board with Adani’s name. They have put back the board that was there earlier. So now, while entering the airport, you will see the Airport Authority of India (AAI) logo on the board again.

Social activist Dilraj Alva had raised the issue. Alva said that the Adani Group had added the word ‘Adani Airport’ to its name. The group did this after assuming the responsibility of functioning of the airport. The AAI handed over 50 years of operation, management and development of the airport to Adani Mangalore International Airport Limited in October 2020. After that, the Adani group had changed the boards at the airport.

“The change of boards and on Google Maps was in contravention of Article 5.15 of agreement that bars concessionaire from branding itself or its shareholders in any manner, including through advertisement, and display boards,” he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

However, activists filed an RTI. The Right to Information Act says that there was no provision regarding change of name in the contract for operation and maintenance of the airport.

After this, Airport Authority of India and the Director of Mangaluru International Airport received a legal notice in this regard. The court asked them about adding the tag ‘Adani’ in the name of the airport.

As a result, the AAI changed the name of the international airport as before. Dilraj Alva told that he has made changes on both Facebook and Twitter of Mangalore airport.
